Asthma Education and Management

At least 10 million people in the United States, including 3 million children, suffer from asthma. Are you one of them? At Rice Drugs, we want to help you improve your health and get your asthma under control!

POP QUIZ:
  • Have you recently missed days from school or work because of your asthma?
  • In the last year, have you been to the emergency room or hospital because of your asthma?
  • Does asthma limit your ability to exercise or even walk briskly?
  • Do you use your quick-acting inhaler at least on a daily basis?
  • Do you awake from sleep at least twice a week with your asthma?

Honestly, could your asthma be under better control? If you answered “yes,” to any of these questions then our pharmacists want to help you! It is estimated that 89% of patients who use inhalers do so incorrectly. Our pharmacists are here to teach all of our patients (children and adults) about the proper ways to use their asthma medicines. We go the extra mile to make sure you get the most out of your medication.

So, how do you monitor your asthma symptoms anyway? The best way is with a peak flow meter. Come in and let our knowledgeable staff assist you in selecting the right one for you. With the help of our pharmacists, you are sure to be in the green and at your personal best!

Many of our pediatric and elderly patients require nebulizers to treat their asthma. Nebulizers transform liquid medicines into a gas where the patient can breathe them deeply into their lungs. This attribute makes them easier to use than inhalers for many patients. Our pharmacists train you how to use your nebulizer and how to clean it properly to decrease risks of lung infections.

At Rice Drugs, we know these machines are quite expensive, so we offer them for purchase and for rental. We are glad to bill your private insurance for your nebulizer if they cover the service; you just pay your co-payment. For our Medicare patients, we will gladly bill Medicare for your nebulizer and nebulizer medications. You have no forms to fill out! If you have further questions about Medicare payment for nebulizers and breathing solutions, call our Medicare specialist today.

Helping you manage your asthma is just one more way our pharmacists are working to protect your health. If you have questions about asthma management or would like to speak to one of our pharmacists about your medications, call us at 1-888-650-RICE or e-mail us at rx@ricedrugs.com.
